Wedgwood Museum wins Art Fund Prize

The Wedgwood Museum has scooped the £100,000 Art Fund Prize for museums and galleries.

The announcement that the Barlaston museum had beaten three others to the top prize was made during a ceremony in London's Royal Institute of British Architects.

Judges were wowed by the internationally renowned collection at the museum, which covers 250 years of British ceramics.

Chair of Judges, David Puttnam said: "This Museum is extraordinary for so many reasons and we were all but unanimous in our decision."

Particular praise was lavished on the way the museum uses its internationally-renowned collection to take visitors on a 250-year tour of British social, design and industrial history, while remaining firmly embedded in the local community.
