Architect of City's Regeneration Steps Down
One of North Staffordshire's highest-profile businessmen has stepped out of the limelight after a career spanning more than 40 years.
David Carr, OBE, retired as managing partner at Festival Park-based architects Hulme Upright and 250 business, political and community leaders paid tribute to the 61-year-old at an event held at the Britannia Stadium to mark the occasion.
Mr Carr became managing partner in 1984, and he has held a catalogue of high-profile public positions including chairman of the former Staffordshire Training and Enterprise Council, chairman of the Stoke-on-Trent Community Partnership, chairman of the Stoke-on-Trent Local Strategic Partnership and a board membership of the North Staffordshire Regeneration Zone. He is deputy president of the North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry following a two-year stint as president ending in November 2007.
Former elected mayor of Stoke-on-Trent Mike Wolfe said: "David's contribution to the city is almost unequalled. He has worked hard at every level from the grass roots to the upper echelons of the chamber of commerce and everywhere he has gone he has changed things for the better."
