The brief dictated that environmental impact of the building was benchmarked using the Building Research Establishments Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) and that a 'very good' standard should be achieved.
The development pays particular attention to setting the building away from mature trees and to landscaping with indigenous species that encourage bio-diversity.
The orientation of the building was carefully considered and a number of options were computer modeled to assess solar gain, daylight and natural ventilation.
The building is insulated to a high standard i.e. 25% better than Building Regulations dictate. This reduces heating and cooling loads to minimize energy consumption.
